VasculAID

AI-powered cardiovascular risk research

VasculAID is a research application that supports scientific research into cardiovascular disease prevention and risk prediction. The application combines health data collected through wearable devices with artificial intelligence (AI) models to help researchers better understand cardiovascular health patterns and risk factors.

What does VasculAID do?

Participants in the VasculAID research project can securely connect their wearable device accounts, such as Fitbit, to the VasculAID application. The application collects selected health metrics and uses them within the VasculAID research programme to:

  • Monitor cardiovascular health trends over time
  • Calculate personalized cardiovascular risk indicators
  • Support the development and validation of cardiovascular risk prediction models
  • Provide participants with access to their own health trends and research-related insights

Why does VasculAID request Google Health and Fitbit data?

VasculAID requests access only to specific health data that is relevant for cardiovascular research.

The application uses:

Activity Data

  • Daily step count
  • Distance travelled
  • Floors climbed
  • Elevation
  • Calories burned

Heart Rate Data

  • Daily minimum heart rate
  • Daily maximum heart rate
  • Resting heart rate

These data points are used exclusively to analyse physical activity and cardiovascular health patterns within the VasculAID research project. The data helps researchers improve cardiovascular risk prediction models and provide participants with research-related health insights through the application.

Privacy and data protection

VasculAID is designed with privacy protection as a core principle.

  • Personal identifiers such as name, address, and email address are not stored within the research dataset.
  • Participants are identified using a unique Study ID.
  • Data is linked through pseudonymized identifiers to support scientific research while protecting participant privacy.
  • Data is never sold and is not used for advertising, marketing, or credit scoring.
